Day 1

Day 1 was technically last night but I’m rolling today into it as well since I got such a late start.

I started a road map on trello for the quake remake;

This will be where I record what is needed, what is done, and anything else related to the development forthcoming. This is for my sanity as well as a window into what it takes to develop a game, even with reusing some bits.

The core focus right now is character mechanics and feel…

For the game to really spark the fire, I want to to hold true to the heart of the game; A fast paced FPS with the most basic fundamentals:

  • Centered weapon on view (with option to offset in settings)
  • Weapon bob while moving
  • One movement speed
  • No reloading
  • Subtle air-control for strafe-jumping (this is tricky)
  • Weapon kick during firing

Make sure to check the trello board to see how the development is moving along. I’ll start including videos with the updates, but currently I just have a standard level to work in to test the character.
